How can I get my new dog to come to me?
I just got a dog (as of 3 hours ago) from the local animal shelter. They said he knew his name, and he kind of does. But he doesnt come when hes called. I understand that he is very excited about his new surroundings and that Im not "his owner" to him. Is there anything I can do to make him come when hes called in a short time?

use treats as rewards when it listens, be nice to it and give it some time. It should come around

You need to train her by using treats and calling her. She will come to the treat. give the dog the treat and petting the dog while petting and praising her

Right now, you just need to build trust. Just spend a couple days bonding with him, lots of hugs and kisses, and teaching him what the word ‘present’ means :P.
When you find that he’s trusting you more, use treats to get him to come with you; he’ll associate coming to you with getting a treat.

have him or her get into a sitting position and every time you say its name give it a treat but make sure to say it clearly good luck hope it works

You will probably have to train him to come when you call. He probably wasn’t taught that command by his previous owners.

that’s the same as my dog, give him time to feel comfortable around you, cause he doesn’t know you. try to make him feel homey and comfy then wait and he will come to you or if he is calm give him food or a snack call him and pet him, and then let him sniff you
btw you have a cute dog
congrats and good luck

Beautiful dog!
To teach a dog a new trick, make the reward worth the effort. Find a small snack that your dog LOVES (a tiny piece of cheese, a small dog treat, etc.), and make excited noises and clap your hands while holding the treat up. When he starts to come over to you, say "(Dog’s name), come!" and then give him the treat once he arrives all the way. This way you are not saying "come" over and over and desensitizing him to the word before he ever learns the meaning of it. Eventually he will connect that when you say that word and he comes over, he will get a reward.

When you call him and he comes, give him a training treat or a small piece of chicken. He’ll relate that coming to you results in rewards and in his mind coming to you will be a good thing.
BTW- he’s a cutie!

Human Language (*clap clap* Come, Bear)= boring
Dog Language (*wag butt in air* lets play!) = here i come!
Bend over and call his name, run away and call his name. Simple doggie talk meaning: Hey! Let’s go do something!

Offer food, bend down to his level, talk in a high-pitched playful voice and call his name. If he doesn’t come right away, walk away. "Bye, Bear, see ya…"
Don’t allow him off leash in the open EVER.
You lucked out; there isn’t any Chow in that dog. If anything, he’s a light-boned Samoyed, if he’s a mix, he’s mixed with something like Siberian Husky, not Chow. I can’t imagine why anyone would think there was Chow in that dog. I’m voting for purebred (if not carefully bred) Samoyed.
Sign up for obedience school right away; you’ll both profit from it.
Congratulations on a lovely pet!!!
